Job Stories From Allegheny County, PA
Update older kitchen for Robert L.

We met with Robert and his family earlier in 2020 to discuss remodeling their kitchen, however, due to Covid we were not able to start the job until September.

The family's reason for the remodel:

They were unhappy with the existing plain wood cabinets and the pink countertops.  They also sought our opinion as to how to make the kitchen appear larger and more spacious.

The challenge:

There was a supporting beam in the kitchen that made reconfiguration an issue.  Not to be deterred, we were able to adjust the beam to encompass new additional cabinets.  We also cut the wall into the dining room in half and added lower cabinets and countertops.  This also allowed much more natural light from the dining room to brighten the kitchen.

The result:

The family requested light gray cabinets with white countertops and a gray backsplash, black handles and pulls, new flooring and sink.  They're very happy with more cabinets and counterspace and the brightened fresh new look.

Bathroom update during covid in Gibsonia

T & L wanted desperately to update their master and hall baths during the covid time.  The bathrooms were in desperate need of updating.  In addition, L was the caregiver for her father and grandchild.  So the house was full.

They chose to have us start with the hall bath and leave the master for everyone's use.  This remodel took much longer to complete due to the length of time to receive materials and the installer getting covid.  He would be unable to work for a month.  We continued by hiring another installer to complete the project.  It wasn't as timely as we all wanted, but everyone hung in there for a happy result.

Major basement renovation in Gibsonia

Mike M. and his family wanted to finish their basement to include a full bathroom, theater room, and fitness room.  This would allow his family to still see theater-style movies and continue to stay healthy, especially during the covid pandemic.

After meeting with them, Mike took a new job and wasn't going to be available for a time.  We're looking forward to resuming where we left off when Mike's schedule frees up.

Kitchen island needs some love in Gibsonia

Our customer asked us to improve their existing kitchen island to match their beautiful cherry cabinets.  We can accomplish this by adding end panels.  They also mentioned possibly installing a new longer island with seating and eliminating their small dinette table.

Adding a coffered ceiling to their kitchen and living room for added style was next on their list. We had to be honest and let them know that their ceilings weren't high enough to make this a good option.  It would've made the room look crowded.

Even though they were disappointed in our answer, they were thankful for our honesty.

A DIY Job Gone Bad

About 7-8 years ago our customer coated their deck and railings with a paint that was supposed to give it texture.  However, they didn't prepare the surface correctly because most of it peeled off in strips within a year or two.  Also, the places where the paint peeled off turned green from mold.  Major sanding was needed before it could be stained or painted. Also, the top rail and railing cap of a five foot long section of the railing was broken from a tree falling on it. L-shaped 24x14 each way.

DIY projects need to be carefully researched to avoid costly mistakes.  Done properly this project would have lasted much longer.  The broken railing...well, we'll blame mother nature.

Time for Relaxation - Rebecca K.

Rebecca called us initially to discuss building a deck on her house.  As a working mom with a stressful job she really wanted a place to relax in the nice weather and enjoy her family.  After several visits and discussions, it was found that due to issues with her side lot, a deck wasn't going to be feasible.

We then started discussing a stone patio with a new porch and stairs.  The very uneven terrain and roots in her yard had to be dealt with first.  At the same time, we searched for and found an installer certified by the stone manufacturer chosen.

This process took longer than Rebecca had hoped for, but was well worth the wait.  She and her family now spend their leisure time enjoying their beautiful new space and cooking outdoors.  They even bought a fire pit for those cooler nights.
